Furnace Exhaust Motor Troubles - One Possible Fix

!±8± Furnace Exhaust Motor Troubles - One Possible Fix

Now I am writing this for the handy guy that just does not know much about the furnace. If you know yourself not to be handy this project is probably above you.

I have a high-efficiency furnace that was built & installed in 1997 so today just weeks before the start of 2011 I realized it is 13/14 years old. It is the type that has an exhaust blower that vents the hot gases out the side of the house. What I found was it was cold and the furnace did not kick on. When I pulled the front cover to me it smelled hot like burning wiring that hot wiring smell. Just then it tried to start.

Now the sequence of events is the blower motor runs (inducer blower) this causes a slight vacuum on the chamber for the hot gas ignition. It must sense this vacuum or it will not start. What I noticed it the inducer motor has a little fan on the outside to push air across the motor and cool it. The motor was turning very slowly. I turned off the power and began to examine this by hand. I turned or rotated the motor by hand and notice if spun hard it stopped quickly like not even 2 rotations. What I did was pull the back off the motor, this got the little fan blade off the shaft, allowing me to see the bearing.

Next I squirted Gumout into both bearings. Now these are sealed units so I had to soak the motor bearings in Gumout and then rotate the motor many times it did start to loosen up and spin up to 5 rotations after a hard spin. I reassembled it and turned on the power. This had very little effect so I repeated the process and the 2nd time I pulled the shaft in and out and noticed that this seemed to clear something in the bearing. So I re-applied the WD40 or Slick 50 spray in my case and then reassembled and turned on the power.

After this second cleaning and oiling the furnace has been running a week. My next step was realizing how central this is to proper function I assume it will gum up again. So I went on-line and found the motor 5 retail from carrier. Or 7 plus shipping from furnace parts inc. I am waiting now for that to arrive. When it is here I will take the next day off and change this assembly out you reuse the fan blades ect. This action will give us a new motor good for an other 10-12 years and a new starting capacitor.

Summary I bought time when I cleaned the bearings, Time to find the part at a discount, and time to ship it here without overnight fees. P.s. it took a lot of solvent to clean sealed bearings. I had to try to get the solvent inside the seal. Not sure which actually did it the solvent or the oil.

Why Can't The US Government Keep Their Information Secure?

!±8± Why Can't The US Government Keep Their Information Secure?

This entire episode in the saga of American politics over the WikiLeaks issue seems to have really caused a stir, not only in our own county, but like a shot heard round the world. In reading the various media reports about the whole thing, and watching the TV news - it's like you can't get away from the story, even if you don't really care.

Personally, I didn't find any of the information leaked of significant value or anything, I hadn't either suspected or heard rumored - in other words, so what? Nevertheless, this story has wings, and look where it's going, it's invaded our lives, media, and even daily conversations. One sole disruptor of civilization and his cult-like following have captured the national conversation.

In fact, not long ago, I was sent one of those viral emails from an acquaintance regarding the whole WikiLeaks fiasco, and the message was pretty straight forward, it said; "Here's the best statements I have seen regarding WikiLeaks;"

"Mike Huckabee said that if the United States wants to keep anything secret they need to put it with Obama's College Papers and Long Form Birth Certificate."

Now that is a low blow isn't it, but it does speak to the transparency of government and the promises made with regards to the whole Whistle Blower motif, and the reality of why transparency shouldn't necessarily rule the day - otherwise it could ruin the year. Does this mean some information should be held on a need-to-know basis, or that we need secrets?

Well, it's obvious now that these debating points will continue well into the future, as our military, government, and especially our State Department mend the bridges these leaks have caused around the world. It's really too bad, that one individual can have so much animosity for another country that, he's willing to start a private little online war like this. Maybe we need to rethink everything with regards to the Internet, hacking, digital security, and how and what we keep as secret.

Indeed, I sincerely hope this does not crush back-door communication between other nations of the world with the US, as that can only lead to political impasse, and potential future wars. We must keep our heads about this. Please consider it all and think on it. If you'd like to contact me on this or have something worthy to add, please do so, as it might be great material for a future article.

How Do You Spend Your Time?

!±8± How Do You Spend Your Time?

When developing a home based internet business, perhaps one of the most demanding features will be how you manage your time. How successful you are at managing your time will be the difference between enjoying your new endeavor or giving up. In this twenty first century that we are in it seems that time becomes a greater element in how we succeed in our personal and business goals. Because the home based business owner has only his or herself to be responsible to, it is easy to procrastinate and delay items that should be done on a daily basis. I am going to give you a few ideas about how to use your valuable time and still have time to do other enjoyable activities.

Perhaps the best concept of managing your time is to look at time as an investment rather than an expense. For instance ,you can you can invest your time in actions that take you closer to your goals or on the other hand you can spend your time that will take you further away from your goals. For example, you will be further from your goals by spending an hour in front of the TV rather than spending an hour working to improve your home based internet business. You must always remember that time is not like money because you can save money but you cannot save time. Once you have spent that hour of time, it is gone for ever and can never be recovered. Once you have spent that hour of time and you feel that you would like to have that hour back, your next step is to spend your future hour of time more wisely.

There is a long standing rule on time management that is called the 20/80 rule. The basis of this rule is that 20% of your time is the most productive and the other 80% is the least productive. The 20% represents the critical few ideas that will prove to be the most productive and the 80% the least productive. The winners of time management will choose the high leverage 20% most productive projects and procrastinate on the low leverage 80% nonpoductive projects. The losers of time management will choose the low leverage nonproductive 80% and procrastinate on the high leverage 20%.

With this 20/80 rule in mind, look at your daily to do list which most of us create the same way every day. Initially cross off your list the trivial or nonproductive items which are usually fast and frivolous items and very easy to do e.g. lunch with a friend. That will be the 80% on your daily list and will be the least productive. The other 20% will be more difficult but will be more creative. When you have completed your 20% most productive items on your list, then give yourself a break and do one of the easier items in the remaining 80%. By using this 20/80 rule, you will find that you will have less stress as you will not feel that you are always behind in using your time efficiently.

May this 20/80 rule be of help in your time management.
